Did you ever watch A Fairy Tale: A True Story back in the day? If not, you should definitely rent it before creating your fairy garden!

One summer during middle school, I was visiting my grandmother in North Carolina and she had the wonderful idea to make a fairy garden. We spent the day constructing fairy gardens with a neighbor down the street. They are super simple to make and look great in any one's yard or patio. My sister recently came across some fairy garden photos on Pinterest and said I should write a blog post about them. Great idea!
The main item you need to buy before constructing your fairy garden is the base of your whole project. As you can see below, they can go in anything from bathtubs to giant flower pots. We used an old wooden box that looked like a treasure chest for ours. After that, all you need to do is hit up a local craft store and purchase doll house items that you think fairies would love - anything from miniature furniture to tiny gardening tools. Children will love picking these things out! Your garden will also look more beautiful if you add some moss (we used a lot of moss in ours; moss is key!), flowers, and green plants. Don't forget to pick up a bag or two of soil as well. Then put it all together using your imagination/creativity and wait for the fairies to arrive!
As you can tell from the photos above, all fairy gardens are unique, colorful, and creative. No matter how you design yours, there will be some fairy out there that wants to make your garden his or her home! Do you think you'll make a fairy garden this spring? Let me know in the comments below! Also, don't forget about the benefits of gardening - over 200 calories burned/hour plus it's good for the mind and soul. Okay, you've convinced me...I have been oohing and aahing over these on Pinterest and I am finally going to make one with my boys this summer. They will love it. Never thought to look for doll house furniture. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteYay! Let me know how it goes!
DeleteI am a true believer in Fairies and Pixies and such...you have convinced me to re-do my tubs and containers outside. This will go nicely with all the different birdhouses I have....
ReplyDeleteWow I've never seen a Fairy Garden in a bathtube.
ReplyDeleteI think that is way better than just throwing it away.
Thanks for the post and the inspiration ;)
