What To Do Now?!

Photo from here.
My friends keep asking me when our next race is (I guess that means I'm the race organizer/leader of the group?).  It got me thinking - what's next?  I've completed four half marathons, numerous 5Ks, a couple obstacle mud races, etc.  I've PRed during races and had a lot of fun running them, but I feel like I need a new goal.  While I always choose fun 5K races to participate in, I'm starting to feel like I need something more than 3.1 miles.  (I will still be signing up for 5Ks and 15Ks in the future though) Here are some options I've come up with as new goals:

1.  TIME - I've been doing a lot of strength training and intervals (because of the Tone It Up Bikini Series).  I definitely think this has helped me get faster (read this post on when I cut off almost 2:30 minutes off my best 5K time).

2.  OBSTACLE RUN - Train for a tough obstacle course such as the Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, or a Spartan race.  These take strength, endurance, and speed, so they would be great for overall fitness.

3.  FULL MARATHON -  A lot of my Twitter friends have completed at least one full marathon.  I'm not going to lie - this is very intimidating for me, but I feel like it is something that I want to do at least once.

4.  TRIATHLON - All the lovely ladies that I ran the Dirty Girl Mud Run with complete triathlons.  While I will not be doing any Ironmans like them, I think a triathlon could be a great goal since it has the three different aspects to it - swimming, running, and biking.  I know my gym, LIFETIME Fitness, has an indoor triathlon people can try.  I think it includes 10 minute swim, 20 minute run and a 30 minute bike.  It might be a good beginner tri, no?!

Let me know which goal you think I should choose in the comments below and why!  I would really appreciate the suggestions!

  1. I'm probably a tad biased, but I love the lifetime indoor tri idea. Not intimidating with the open water swim or road biking and I think you'd find that being a three sporter is fun. In a close second would be the obstacle race, just because that would be fun too. :)
