If you follow the Tone It Up monthly calendar (check out the June calendar here), then you know Saturdays are "Friends with Benefits" days (workout with a buddy) and Sundays are either "RUNdays" or "BUMdays". I've been really proud of myself in regards to how well I've stuck to the Tone It Up Bikini Series the last few months and I want to make sure June is no different. Actually, I want June to be the best month in 2012 so far...until July that is ;o)
I knocked two Tone It Up weekend challenges out with one stone - Saturday morning I met up with my friend Eric (you've read about him here and here) at the local high school stadium (I ran there - I'm on a #RWRunStreak roll!). This stadium is always open to the public - are all public school stadiums like that? I think they should be. Anyway, we tried to do a HIIT workout. I don't know if it necessarily counted as a HIIT workout though since I don't think my heart rate lowered until we did our cool down lap! Eric is about 6.5 feet tall, so one stride for him is about 3 for me! He's a quick one.
It was a simple 20 minute workout and I definitely recommend it. I'm a little proud of us for creating it, by the way! We decided to run up the stadium stairs twice as fast as possible and then do a jog around the track. We planned to do this four times as that equals a mile around the track and 8 journeys up the stairs. I definitely felt the burn! We did it in a little over 16 minutes - 4 minutes per circuit. Not bad! (We are going to keep track of our progress each time by lowering our time or adding circuits.)
After, we did a cool down lap and some burpees. We chatted for a bit (He is going to help me train for my next big race!) and then I ran the mile back home. It was success - we might try to do this more often!

TIU Challenge 2:
"cheat on your trainers" aka try something new
As I mentioned previously, Sunday is either a RUNday or a BUMday. This weekend it was a RUNday and the Tone It Up challenge was to complete 3 miles. I completed my 3 miles during the evening - one of my favorite times to run. I brought Lily along with me because she is actually good at pushing me to run faster. In the morning I caught up on all my weekend toning workouts - MaliBooty x 4, Sunkissed Abs x 3, Sea Shells routine, Rainbow move x 90. I hate to have to "catch up" on workouts, but sometimes I feel like I need to. This week I definitely put more time into my cardio sessions, but today starts a new week (and new TIU challenges!).

Yes, the Chris Brown song is playing through my head as I type this - look at me now! ;o) How did you stay active this weekend? Let me know in the comments below.
