Welcome to Stamford!

My friend Jessica requested that I do an apartment tour post, so she can picture where I am up north.  Check it out here if you missed it.  In addition, I want to do a Stamford post, so my friends and family can see where I've been hanging out.  If you don't care about my whereabouts for the last month, then check out this post for fun places to visit while in Stamford.  This list is mostly restaurants/bars, but I have a lot more exploring to do (follow up post soon, I'm sure)!  I definitely recommend Stamford if you plan to travel up North because it is close proximity to everything you could want - ocean, hiking trails, Greenwich, NYC, etc.

Photo from here.
I love this Italian restaurant!  Not only is there a lot of outside seating, but the menu is endless - from pizza to pasta to paninis.  I ordered the Farfalle al Salmone which was bow tie pasta with smoked salmon.  I would probably name this spot the number one place to people watch on Bedford Street.

Photo from here.
I went to Lucky's one night for a chocolate shake.  While this place also includes a nice outdoor patio, we sat at the counter.  I love the 1950's vibe this place has!  It is similar to a Johnny Rocket's if you've ever visited that chain.  Unfortunately, I can't tell you which is better since I only ordered a shake.  The milkshakes were delicious though and I loved how they played Pleasantville on tv behind the counter - but maybe I am a little biased toward Reese Witherspoon and Paul Walker?

Photo from here.
I went to sushi at this place the other night.  Sushi is sushi to me, so I can't really compare and contrast it to other places I've been.  It was really delicious though and they gave me a cherry with my Shirley Temple (you would think every place would...), so I was a happy camper and would definitely eat here again!

Photo from here.
I've had Spanish tapas before, but I've never tried Italian tapas until I came here.  It is actually really delicious!  First, I ordered a Skinny Colada which tasted similar to a Pineapple Willie (rum and pineapple juice), but I'm sure the ingredients were different.  For dinner, we ordered crispy cauliflower, Tuscan tuna tartare, goat cheese cakes, and Brussels sprouts.  For dessert, we had a cannoli which I always love.  (I wanted to try their cannoli dip, but it didn't have chocolate chips in it.  The horror!)

Photo from here.
This restaurant is a chain, so you might have one in your area.  It has become my dad's favorite restaurant, so we have eaten here twice in the month I've been here.  The food is really delicious though!  The first time, I had grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and green beans.  The second visit, I had lobster bisque, crab legs, a baked potato, and asparagus.  I shared the second meal with my dad and the restaurant split up everything for us which was really nice.  I also recommend the Sharkfin Pie - ice cream, peanuts, fudge, peanut butter and an Oreo crust!  Yum!  I haven't figured it out yet, but some of the meals come with a free mini dessert.  I have yet to order one of those though.

Photo from here.
I went to Tigin's for my first night out in Stamford and had a great time - even though the bartenders picked on me for ordering a Dirty Shirley.  (They are pink!  How can you not love them?!)  It reminded me of Fado's in Atlanta where my friends and I would hang out (minus the awesome rooftop patio!).  The bartenders all have cute Irish accents too, but sorry ladies, at least one of them appeared to be married.  The best part?  While finding the Tigpin website to link to my blog, I discovered that Tigin IS a Fado's!  They share the same website. How funny is that?!  Now I like this place even more - a little bit of Atlanta in Stamford. LOVE :o)

Photo from here.
I've been to Lola's twice - once for dinner and once while out on the town.  Both visits were great experiences.  I really recommend their white sangria.  I had that during both visits - I hope it isn't just a summer special.  For dinner, I had the lobster enchiladas.  They were so yummy that I cannot wait to go back to order them again!  If you ever make your way there, I recommend a table by the front for people watching.  Plus, if it is nice out, the restaurant will open up the front glass wall.

Photo from here.
My family and I went here for one of my dad's birthday dinners.  It has live music, it's right on the water, and it has delicious seafood.  It definitely reminds me of Savannah/Tybee in GA.  It sits in a harbor, so boats can ride up right to the restaurant!  I ordered the crab shells - shell pasta with lobster, crab meat, scallops, and shrimp.  So good!  Do you see a pattern with all the seafood I'm eating up here?  A bonus of living on the water!

Photo from here.
While this isn't a restaurant obviously, one of my favorite things about Stamford is the fiber glass horses all around town.  Atlanta has "buckheads" and Athens has bulldogs.  I even worked on a committee to bring fiber glass eagles to the city of Statesboro during undergrad, but the project fell through.  The horses are all really different from one dressed like Julius Caesar to another decked out in red, white, and blue.  I can't decide which one is my favorite, but I do love the one outside the library designed like book ends and the black, white, and pink horse (although it needs some rhinestones...let's be honest!).

Thanks for letting me show you my favorite places (so far!) around Stamford, CT!  Which would would you like to try?  Or, if you have been here before, leave me some recommendations of things to do around here.  I'm always down for trying new things.

Motivation Revealed!

Have you ever been mid-workout and needed a little extra push?  What if some motivation just appeared out of nowhere - like on your shirt, maybe?  That is the idea behind ViewSPORT's new fitness apparel line with sweat-activated technology!  The shirt's message becomes more visible the harder you push yourself during a run or a gym sesh.

Photo from here.
FitFluential is currently teamed up with ViewSPORT for their official merchandise, so I've been hearing a lot about this company recently on Twitter and Facebook.  They even just released a FitFluential #Proof jacket a few days ago:

There is a large selection of shirts for both men and women on the ViewSPORT website.  I've posted my favorites below:

for the fellas
for the ladies

BUT, the coolest thing about ViewSPORT (in my opinion) is that you are able to custom make shirts with the sweat-activated technology!  This is perfect for a running club, a fitness blogger needing "fan" apparel, or even a college intramural flag football team - just to name a few!  Even better news?  ViewSPORT has a coupon code for you for 15% off most shirts and tanks.  Just enter "VIEWSPORT" during checkout!  I want the grey run shirt I posted above.  It will match my grey and neon shoes so well! :o)  Let me know which shirt is your favorite in the comments below!  Don't forget to follow ViewSPORT on Facebook and Twitter!

Ready To Run!

Photo from here.

If you read my post on the things I am looking forward to doing this fall, you know I would love to run some races through the beautiful, fall foliage.  I don't think I specifically stated that, but what better way to experience a New England fall than to run through it?  Let's be honest!  This morning I got serious about researching some races, and so far I think I've found some good ones.

Being the planner that I am, I went ahead and found some winter races as well!  One of my favorite feelings is training/looking forward to an upcoming race.  I'd love to hear your opinion on these races in the comments below!

This race would be awesome for three reasons - 1) It is for a good cause, 2) I'd get to wear lots of PINK, and 3) I would get to cross running through Central Park off my bucket list!

Donna did the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon in Savannah two years ago and loved it.  This one takes place in Brooklyn which could have some great views.

The photos from the website won me over.  The fall leaves are out of control!

This is supposed to be the same Sleepy Hallow town as in the Legend of Sleepy Hallow, so I'm already intrigued.  I just wish it had a little more "cheesy-ness" to it such as costumes/Halloween-themed especially since it is so close to Halloween.  Who am I kidding?  I might still dress up.  You know I love a good costume...

I discovered that November 11 is going to be World Run Day through Active.  I celebrated National Running Day this summer, so I might as well celebrate World Run Day too!  A bunch of cities are participating in this event, so be sure to check out Active to find one near you!  I have to decide which CT city would be the best to run through...decisions, decisions.

I'm already registered for this one!  My Hal Higdon training schedule is about to start kicking my butt - long runs begin soon!  Other than keeping up with training, my biggest problem is deciding what character to dress up as...

I'm not registered for the 5th Anniversary Princess Half Marathon yet, but I will sign up soon.  It will be my 4th year running this race - unfortunately, I am not a "Perfect Princess" :o(  This race will be a blast as usual, but I think I am mostly excited about eating at the new Be Our Guest restaurant!

I've been wanting to do this race for over a year now.  It isn't on my exact birthday/Valentine's Day this year, but I'll just pretend.

This isn't a run obviously, but I had to add it because I am so excited about it.  This is a forty mile bike tour of the Five Boroughs.  It is really relaxed - children do it and people stop for lunch along the way.  Unfortunately, it is based off a lottery that takes place in February, so it might be hard to get in to.  I'm trying to recruit a team currently if anyone is interested.

As I mentioned above, I would love to read your thoughts on these races.  I'm also taking more suggestions for races in the New England area.  I'm obviously willing to drive a bit if the race is neat enough.  Let me know in the comments below!

Beach Week Begins!

Photo from here.

Once I returned from the Fitness and Health Blogger Conference at the end of June, my fitness routine took a turn for the worst.  I tried to stay as active as possible, but life kept getting in the way - getting laid off, a two week beach vacation, a random break-up, a huge move across the country, etc.  I feel like things are finally returning to normal.  Thankfully, the lovely ladies at Tone It Up are declaring this week Beach Week!  It is the perfect way to end the summer with a fitness and health BANG

This week will include workout playlists, exercise routines, photo challenges, live chats, giveaways, and surprises along the way!  Not only do they want you to eat lean, clean and green plus drink lots of water as usual (more clean eating tips here), but Karena and Katrina also prepared a workout calendar for this week!  I've posted mine below (I combined it with my Walt Disney World Marathon training schedule.).

Sign up here to join in the fun!  When you sign-up, it asks what your Beach Week goal is.  I said mine was to strength train every day on top of my marathon training + use this week as a time to get back into my fitness routine.  There really is no excuse for me not to be rocking workouts at the moment!  You can check-in with Karena and Katrina on Twitter, Facebook, and/or the Tone It Up Community.  As I've mentioned in the past, this fitness community is one of the most supportive and fun groups I've ever been a part of.  Let's join together to have the best last week of summer ever!

Photo from here.

My two-a-days workout schedule this week:

Tuesday:  3 mile run + Under the Sea x 3 + Cowabunga x 3
Thursday:  3 miles + Beach Babe DVD's Surfer Girl + Sunkissed Abs x 3 + 50 tummy tucks
Friday:  Beach Babe DVD's HIIT workout + Summer Arms + Bikini Abs
Saturday:  3 mile run + Beach Babe DVD Surfer Girl workout
Sunday:  hour walk + Beach Babe DVD Bikini Sculpt

If this doesn't work for you or if you don't own the Beach Babe DVD, Karena and Katrina give you lots of options to choose from.  Mix and match what is best for you and your body!  I love that this week includes all of my favorite workouts from this past summer.  Other than the Beach Babe DVD, my favorite exercise videos to do have been the Cowabunga, Malibooty, and Sunkissed Abs workouts.  What are your favorites?  Let me know in the comments below!  Also, tell me if you will be joining me and the Tone It Up community for Beach Week!

Thursday Thoughts: Law School

"Oh, sweetheart, you don't need law school. Law school is for people who are boring and ugly and serious. And you, button, are none of those things. " -Legally Blonde

...that was my sister's response when I told her I was considering law school.  Isn't she a gem?  In all seriousness, I have looked up a variety of law schools and bought some LSAT books in the past few weeks.  I also marked my calendar for the December 1st LSAT exam.  Lots of friends and family members seem to think this is a great plan for me, and to be honest, I think it might be too.  I can further my education, complete internships, figure out what I want to do exactly, etc.  While I can't see myself as an attorney really, I think a law degree would still be useful in my professional and personal life.  I enjoy reading, writing, my two business law classes from undergrad, and the school environment in general.  Don't get me wrong - I know law school is going to be a level of schooling I have not yet experienced, but I think I'm up for the challenge.  Thoughts?  I will keep you updated, but until then, this will be me with my new LSAT study books:

Chocolate That Loves You Back

Photo from here.

My friend Angela commented on one of my posts last week that "Chocolate always loves you back", and it might be one of my favorite quotes now - especially because I found a chocolate that really does love me back!

While attending the Fitness and Health Blogger Conference in Colorado over the summer, I was introduced to Adora Calcium Supplements.  Now while I'm not great at taking vitamins everyday (I forget!), I can remember to eat a piece of chocolate every day...since lets be honest, I do that anyway.  Plus, this isn't any old chocolate.  As I mentioned, Adora is a calcium supplement.  One disk contains 500 mg of calcium (50% of the daily value).  While you can eat three of the disks throughout the day, most people will probably take one and then fulfill the rest of their daily calcium value by consuming foods that are rich in calcium - milk, cheese, yogurt, broccoli, spinach, etc.

Calcium is essential for many reasons.  According to Adora, Calcium contributes to healthy tooth enamel, helps with muscle contraction, strengthens skin and nails, assists in blog clotting, and more.  Of course, calcium's most famous job is that it helps us to build strong bones!  Now who wouldn't want that?

In addition to calcium, each disk also contains vitamin D3 and magnesium to help your body absorb the calcium.  It is gluten free.  It does not contain any corn syrup or any trans fats.  It has 30 calories and 2-3 grams of sugar per disk (depending on what kind you get).  Adora Calcium Supplements come in premium milk chocolate and premium dark chocolate.  Everyone I know that has tried these are in love with the dark chocolate disks, but I enjoy the milk chocolate disks the most.  Surprisingly, they really do taste just like chocolate candies!

Interested?  You can purchase Adora Calcium Supplements at their online store, Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe, OR win some here!  Adora is kind enough to share the wealth with PopFitLife readers!

CT Room Tour!

I was talking to my friend Jessica last night and she suggested that I do a post on my apartment and new city to help her visualize everything I talk about.  I thought it was a great idea!  Today, I am posting about my apartment.  On Friday, I will post about the city of Stamford if I can get some good photos before then.

I'm currently living with my family until I find a place for myself and Lily.  I'm hoping a job comes first, but if I can find a good place before then you never know.  On to the room tour:

From this vlog on my childhood/Atlanta bedroom, it is obvious that I love me some color, so prepare to be blinded by white and neutrals in my CT bedroom!

My CT bedroom!
Little pieces of Atlanta...
My teal chair from Pier1 will arrive Friday, but until then here is my new desk I put together this week!
More pieces of Atlanta life...
My view of the lovely rooftop deck!
My view: pool, patio, boats, ocean!  The ocean view will eventually be blocked by another high rise apartment building, but I don't know how long that will take.
I also spend a lot of time on the dreadmills at the gym downstairs.  Here's a photo I found online.
Photo from here.
That's about it!  I'm sure my post on the city of Stamford will be much more exciting...hopefully ;o)

I Love Fall...Like A Lot!

Photo from here.

I mentioned in my Weekly Recap post from yesterday that the weather Saturday night felt like fall.  It was crisp and cold, and while I love everything summer has to offer, the fall is my favorite season ever.  I knew I wanted to write a post about the upcoming season for this week, but then I found this post that I did last August on the many reasons I adore fall.  I loved re-reading that post for multiple reasons.  First, it got me more excited about fall.  Second, I think I used about 349,873,746 exclamation marks to express my love. Third, I was still new at blogging and while many things have changed since then, some things remain the same.  Instead of a general fall post, this one will include things I'm excited about for this fall - my first fall up North!

Photo from here.

Fall Foliage:  New England is known as the place to go to see gorgeous fall leaves. Hands down.  If interested, you can even take a fall foliage tour.  There are many to choose from - the tour via hot air balloon actually sounds pretty amazing!
Fall Hike in CT:  I've quickly learned that not only is CT known for being beautiful in the fall, it is also known for its hiking trails and state parks.  Why not combine the two?
Football Games:  Supposedly college football isn't as popular up here as it is in the South...probably because Northern teams don't rule football quite like the SEC does.  Sad.  None the less, I'm hoping to hit up a football game this season, even if it's a professional one.
Central Park:  While you know I love Central Park in the summer, I've made it my goal to experience it during every season.
Fire Pit:  At Georgia Southern, fall was basically bonfire season.  The closest thing I can find to that is the apartment fire pit on the rooftop.  Hot chocolate + hoodie and I'm good to go.
Boston:  I think visiting Boston would be the ultimate fall adventure.  I don't know if I will make it up this year, but it is on my bucket list for sure.
Fall TV Line Up:  You know I can't discuss fall without mentioning how excited I am for my favorite shows to return.  I can't remember the last time I watched a whole television show.  I miss it...
Miami: Donna and I are scheduled to attend a conference in Miami at the end of September.  While it will definitely not feel like fall down there, I am still really excited for this trip!  First, I've never been to Miami except while driving through to Key West.  Second, Kelly Cutrone will the featured speaker.  Third, it will be an amazing networking event.  Forth, I get to spend time with my bestie...even though we aren't taking any of the same classes.  Details soon!
Mom's Wedding:  My mom is getting married October 7th.  It will be my first trip back to Atlanta (other than my layover en route to Miami).  I'm hoping to hang out with my friends sometime that weekend, play/cuddle with Lily A TON, wear an amazing dress to the wedding, and enjoy an oatmeal bar at the reception!
Thanksgiving:  I love Thanksgiving - it is one of my favorite traditions.  This year might be a little different since I'm going to have to fly in, but I'm still excited!  Every year we spend Thanksgiving in Knoxville.  We have a delicious lunch - turkey, green bean casserole, bread rolls, mashed potatoes, devilled eggs, etc.  It is basically all of my favorite foods in one sitting!  After that we head to downtown Knoxville for the Fantasy of Trees!  The Fantasy of Trees is an annual event held the week of Thanksgiving to raise money for the children's hospital and to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.  They have crafts, raffles, gingerbread houses, tons of Christmas trees, and live performances.  Although I'm probably 15 years too old for this part, I enjoy making the holiday crafts and decorating a sugar cookie.  It's tradition!
NYC Decorated for Christmas: While I did get to see NYC all done up Christmas style when I visited for New Year's Eve (I just now realized that my theory is right - how you spend NYE really IS how the rest of your year will go.  Weird!), I can't wait to do it again.  There is so much I still want to do - ice skate in Central Park, have frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity, see the Rockettes, etc.
Snow?!:  So I know snow usually comes in the winter, but I'm assuming you never know up here.  Last year they had a snow/ice storm in October!
Halloween:  I love Halloween.  My friend Donna has talked about visiting that weekend!  Either way, I think I already know what I am going to be.  It is another creative costume a la my Wilson costume from last year...or I could go a totally new direction...or I could be a Disney princess to prepare for the Princess Half.  Decisions, decisions...good thing I still have time ;o)

What are your fabulous fall plans?  Let me know in the comments below what your favorite autumn activity is.

Girl Crush: Lo Bosworth

Photo from here.

Once again I feel as though I haven't done a Girl Crush post in forever, but I have a fun one this week!  I've been a fan of Lo Bosworth since Laguna Beach aired in 2004.  She always seemed different than the other cast members.  Maybe it was because her parents seemed a little strict (ex: when they wouldn't allow Lo to go to Catalina Island with her friends), but Lo always came off as the "mother" of the group in my opinion.  Not in a bad way though!  She always had great boy and fashion advice to give her friends as well as some witty remarks every now and then.  Even though some of her comments came off a little mean, I still loved her.

Photo from here.

I loved her more when she joined the cast of The Hills during the second season.  We got to see more of her personality and her personal life.  While she still gave great advice to Lauren, I think Lo actually became funnier on The HIlls.  Let us not forget that she was the one that gave Justin his nickname - Justin Bobby.  Classic.

Photo from here.

In 2008, Lo graduated from UCLA.  Other than working her fabulous day job at Octagon Entertainment, Lo has a website, The Lo Down, and a book of the same title.  Unfortunately, it looks as though her website hasn't been updated since March, but she does tweet often.  You can follow her here.  I bought her book when it first came out.  It is completely different than the books Lauren Conrad writes.  She gives advice on a different topic each chapter.  In addition, as she is giving friendship and relationship advice she throws in her own stories and her friends' experiences, which I enjoyed.  If you are interested, you can purchase it here

Photo from here.

Even though she isn't in the public eye that much (so I don't know too much about her), I added Lo Bosworth to my Girl Crush list for a few reasons.  First, I loved that she attended UCLA and didn't just continue on with the reality television lifestyle.  I also think it's cool that she turned herself into a brand by launching the book and website.  In addition, from what I've seen from The Hills and Laguna Beach, Lo is always a really good friend to have.  (Although are Lauren and Lo still friends?  I haven't seen them together recently and I don't think they are roomies anymore!)  Lastly, I just think she's gorgeous and I love her style ;o)

Photo from here.

Who was your favorite cast member from Laguna Beach and The Hills?  Do you love that Retro MTV has been playing these shows recently? Let me know in the comments below!
